Main Types of Vertical Grain Silos

1. Hopper Bottom Silo (Cone Bottom)
   • Sloped conical base, elevated on legs.
   • Gravity discharge — fast, full cleanout, no residue.
   • Best for: frequent handling, seed, feed, small-to-medium capacity.
2. Flat Bottom Silo
   • Flat floor, sits directly on a concrete foundation.
   • Needs sweeper auger or unload conveyor to empty.
   • Best for: large-capacity, long-term grain storage.
3. Smooth Wall / Corrugated Wall Silo
   • Corrugated galvanized steel is most common (strong, low-cost, durable).
   • Smooth wall used for special applications (food grade, easy cleaning).

Key Components

• Body: Cylindrical vertical steel sheets.
• Roof: Inverted cone roof with vent, manhole, loading inlet.
• Foundation: Concrete ring beam or full slab.
• Discharge system: Slide gate, auger, conveyor.
• Optional: Aeration fan, temperature monitoring system, level sensor, dust filter.
