Hopper Grain Silos (Hopper Bottom Silos)

Basic Structure

1. Upper body: Cylindrical steel shell (galvanized steel is standard).
2. Hopper bottom: Tapered cone at the bottom, usually at 45° or 60° slope.
3. Support structure: Legs or a steel frame that elevates the silo.
4. Discharge: Outlet at the very bottom with a valve or slide gate.
5. Roof & accessories: Vent, manhole, temperature cable, aeration fan, loading inlet.

How They Work

• Grain is loaded from the top.
• When you open the bottom valve, grain flows out completely by gravity — no sweeping, no augers inside the silo.
• Almost 100% cleanout with no leftover grain.

Hopper vs Flat‑Bottom Silos (Simple)

• Hopper silo: Small–medium capacity, gravity discharge, higher cost per ton, easy cleanout.
• Flat-bottom silo: Large capacity, needs unloading equipment, lower cost per ton, long-term storage.
